Kultaban Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Along the Kultaban ridge, Kyzylkum. R.K. Makarova, E.F. Tsatsir, 1966. Stratotype 7 km east of the village of Tamdykuduk. . Used in the preparation of reference legends, geological survey, exploration, and thematic works of the Kyzylkum, Nurata ore districts, Sultanuizdag Mountains, and Pre-Aral.
Synonym: Kultaban Suite, Культабанская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Greenish-gray, bluish-green, silty (aleuritic), carbonate clays in the lower and non-carbonate in the upper parts. Thickness up to 210m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It lies conformably on the Sugralin Fm. The lower boundary is diachronous (see Sugralin Fm).
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Maral Fm, or with erosion by the Sarbatyr-Paleog Fm, Neogene, or Quaternary formations.
Regional extent
South, Central and Western Kyzylkum, Western Pre-Aral region, Sultan-Uizdag,, north-west of the Bukhara depression, Zirabulak-Ziaetdin and Nurata districts.

Fossils
In the lower and middle parts, it contains foraminifers - Anomalina venesuelana Nutt., Haplophragmoides orfaensis Rod., Trochammina masini Sub., Pseudohastigerina sharkriverensis (Berg. et Olss.), Acarinina rotundimarginata Subb., Uvigerina costellata Moroz.; marine bivalve mollusks - Nuculana santasica Jark., Bathyarca rubastschaica Korob., Marcia (Mercimonia) gasliensis Korob. et Makar. In the top, foraminifers - Hsianella vialovi N. Byk., Cribrononion rischtanicum N. Byk., marine bivalve mollusks - Lucina menardi Desh., Pitar nitida Desh., Ostrea simplex Desh.; nanoplankton zones NP 16-17 Discoaster bifax, D. Saipanensis.
